INK THE BLOCK: Music, Art, and Steamroller Printmaking in the Walker Arts District

Downtown Norman is about to get louder, brighter, and even more creative. Ink the Block is coming to the Walker Arts District this September, bringing together music, art, and a one-of-a-kind steamroller printmaking experience and Uncanny Art House is bringing the paint!

As part of the festival’s full day of activities, Uncanny will host live mural painting stations in the Alley Stage parking lot. Some of these stations will be dedicated to featured artists, while others will be open for crowd participation, giving attendees a chance to literally leave their mark on the event. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just curious about picking up a brush, this is your chance to add to the visual energy of the day and share space with other painters and make new friends!

Beyond the murals, this event will be packed with tons of creativity and several of our friends! Here’s a short list of what to expect at the event:

  • Live music with support of the Opolis and The Depot

  • Arts Market hosted by Oscillator Press

  • Large-scale woodblock printing using a steamroller, with support from Silver Star Construction and Firehouse Art Center

  • Maker space pop-up from Pioneer Library System featuring laser-cutters and hands-on fabrication activities

  • Giant art inflatable by KT Duffy and the OU Art, Technology and Culture Program

  • Local food and drinks will be on deck from Gray Owl Coffee and our alley neighbors at The Garage, Redbrick Bar, The Bluebonnet, Sooner Daiquiri, Prohibition Lounge, and The Custard Factory!

Organizers Jenna Bryan and Eric Piper of Oscillator Press describe the event as a way to showcase Norman’s growing creative community, support small businesses and nonprofits, and welcome incoming college students to the local arts scene!

other ways to support this mini festival

Even if you cannot join us in person, you can still be part of Ink the Block Party. Your support, whether through a one time monetary contribution or by volunteering your time before or during the event, helps bring the music, murals, steamroller prints, art market, and hands-on activities to life. Every dollar fuels creative opportunities for artists, and every helping hand strengthens the sense of community that makes this festival so special.

Together, we can make Downtown Norman’s celebration of art and connection possible for everyone.
