Clay Magnet

Decorate your own handmade fridge magnet or wearable badge

You get: 1 handmade white clay piece, already sealed, with a magnetic badge back attached
Time: about 20 to 30 minutes
Take home: same day, after 15 minutes of drying

NEED TO KNOW

One piece, two ways: stick it on the fridge, or wear it as a badge.
To wear it, the flat back plate goes inside your clothes, against you. The magnet on your art holds it on.
Every piece is handmade, so each one has its own little quirks. That’s on purpose.
Let your markers dry before you seal so nothing smears.
Keep the Mod Podge off the magnet.

GRAB FROM THE ART BAR

Alcohol-based markers (recommended)
Acrylic paint markers
Mod Podge (Gloss or Matte) and a brush

Alcohol-based markers dry in seconds. Acrylic markers work too, but take longer to dry Ask us if you are unsure that a medium will work.

STEP 1: PICK YOUR PIECE

Choose from shapes like music notes, guitars, leaves, a sunflower, circles, squares, and rectangles. Pick the one you love.

STEP 2: ART IT

You can plan your design on scrap paper and use light pencil on the magnet to mark where you will paint or draw. Doodles, dots, names, anything goes. Make it yours.

STEP 3: LET IT DRY

Alcohol-based markers: several seconds
Acrylic marker or paint: about 10 minutes with even layering. Use a heat gun to spead up dring process. Keep it a safe distance and keep it moving. Should dry to the touch in about 2 -3 minutes.

STEP 4: SEAL IT

  1. Brush Mod Podge over the face of the magnet, nice and smooth.

STEP 5: HANDS OFF

  1. Set it on your table for 15 minutes. Fingerprints stick in wet Mod Podge.

  2. One coat is fine. Have time? Add a second coat and wait another 15 minutes.

  3. You can use a heat gun to speed this process. Keep at a reasonable distance and with movement to not burn your piece.

STEP 6: TAKE IT HOME

Stick it on the fridge or wear it as a badge. It’s tough, but please don’t drop it.
